FAQ
Why are small 20cm bongs a good start for beginners?
For beginners, a small 20cm bong is one of the most affordable and is a great starting point. It also lets you get started while working out which bong style and size suits best. A small 20cm bong is easier and requires less effort to smoke, it is also easier to hold while smoking. Lastly, 20cm bong is more discreet and easier to take with you when you are away from home.
What’s the difference between a small and large bong?
A small bong will have less water in the chamber and hence will deliver a stronger warmer hit as opposed to a larger bong. Due to the extra water in the chamber, a large bong will filter your smoke more and provide you with a cool and smoother experience. Smaller bongs are generally more portable compared to large bongs and are also easier to clean.
Why do glass bongs deliver a cleaner taste compared to plastic bongs?
Borosilicate glass (also known as Pyrex) is a non-porous material which means that toxins, impurities and anything else cannot get into the material unlike plastic, which can absorb these. When these impurities do get trapped in the plastic, they do not get washed out and can alter the taste of your smoke, thereby affecting your experience. It is also worth noting that glass can naturally absorb more heat without the risk or warping, unlike plastic. Also, glass is easier to clean and maintain, you can use a glass cleaning solution for the ultimate clean unlike plastic where your options are dish washing liquid and warm water. How do I use a bong?
The process to use a bong is similar no matter the size, style or shape. Follow the following steps for a clean and pure experience:
- Fill the bong chamber with water until the bottom of the stem is fully submerged (don’t overfill the chamber as water may come up the stem). You can also try Piece water as a substitute, find it here: https://www.mybongshop.com.au/collections/bong-cleaning-supplies/products/piece-water-solution
- Chop up your herb but not too finely, ideally you want a consistency down the middle – not too fine but not chunky. You can use your hand, a scissors or we recommend a grinder to achieve the best results, grab a grinder from our extensive range. There is a grinder to fit all budgets: https://www.mybongshop.com.au/collections/grinders
- Pack the cone (or bowl) but don’t force the herb to the bottom – press it down lightly. The reason for this is you want air flow throughout the herb so that it can burn evenly. If air is not getting to some parts of the herb in the cone, then it may not burn at all.
- When you light up the herb, you can either burn it directly with the flame or you can use a hemp wick if you are sensitive to butane. A hemp wick is essentially like a piece of string where one side is inserted into the cone and the other side is lit (avoiding any butane from spraying onto your herb), grab a roll at: https://www.mybongshop.com.au/collections/raw/products/raw-hemp-wick-3m
- When you are lighting up the herb, keep your finger on the carb hole to allow it to burn properly, once you have finished burning the herb, release your finger to inhale the balance.
How do I clean my bong?
Regular cleaning of your bong and accessories is very important for longevity and for providing a smooth, pure and flavoursome smoking experience! You will know that it’s time to clean your bong when you see any of these red flags; your smoke tastes burnt or the flavour is just not there, if there is slime or a build-up of grime or impurities on the glass or if the water becomes dirty or you can see dirt floating in it as soon as you change the water. There are a few ways to clean your bong, you can either wash it with dish washing liquid and warm water, isopropyl alcohol and coarse salt or a glass cleaning solution (this is what we recommend for a deep clean with minimal effort).
Follow these simple steps:
- Remove the rubber base from the bong
- Pull out the stem and take off the cone piece
- Remove the rubber grommet
- Fill a bowl or sink with your choice of solution (dish washing liquid, isopropyl alcohol and coarse salt or glass cleaning solution) and some warm water.
- Soak the glass part of the bong, cone and stem in this solution for 5 – 10 minutes, after which use a cleaning brush to get to the hard to reach places. We don’t recommend washing the rubber parts in glass cleaning solution as the chemicals may damage the rubber
- Rinse all the parts thoroughly and allow them to air dry
- Once dry, assemble all parts
