How does a metal smoking pipe work?
A metal pipe has two parts, the first is a cone piece where you pack your herb into and second is a hollow stem where the smoke travels to your mouth. Simply pack your herb into the cone, hold a flame over it and start inhaling. The heat ignites the herb and the smoke travels straight down the stem and into your mouth.
Should I buy a metal pipe or a glass dry pipe?
This is a personal choice which also depends on your lifestyle but these are some of the key differences to consider. As they are non-porous, glass pipes are made from Pyrex glass and do not retain resin or dirt, whereas metal pipes on the other hand can. You might have noticed this after using or trying to clean a metal pipe and seen a burnt look on the side of the cone. Glass pipes deliver a clean and crisp taste and as glass does not retain heat like metal does, the stem does not get hot over time – metal will get hotter over time as it retains the heat. Glass and metal pipes are both easy to keep clean, the only consideration is that dirt may build up in the thread between the cone and stem if it is not cleaned thoroughly. The downside to glass is that it is more fragile and can break easily if dropped. We recommend glass pipes for use at home and metal pipes while out and about where it can be dropped and bumped around.

They are designed to be put in your pocket, bag or purse and can be taken with you while travelling or generally out, on the other hand glass bongs are not as portable and are more suited to use at home. Metal pipes are highly durable and will not break or chip as easily as a glass bong. One of the main differences is that metal pipes deliver a strong direct hit, the smoke is hotter and the throat hit is more intense. Compared to a glass bong which utilises water to filter the smoke thus providing you with a cooler and more flavoursome hit. Metal pipes are easy to keep clean whereas glass bongs required more effort and possibly a glass cleaning solution in order to keep clean and hygienic.
How do I pack a cone properly?
Preparing your herb properly before you pack it into the cone is very important. Firstly, we recommend using a grinder to create the perfect consistency – not too fine yet not chunky. When you fill the cone, don’t pack it too tightly as this restricts the flow of oxygen and makes it harder when pulling and inhaling – it may feel like there is a blockage. Ideally, you should fill the cone and press it down gently (avoid forcing it downwards).
